The projects supported by the MMR-HCS are projects that deal with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and are categorized into following types:

Precinct Studies

Projects under this type include:

  1. Identification, Mapping, assessment and photo-documentation of precincts & existing buildings in heritage precincts in MMR
  2. Developing guidelines/ action plan for conservation and improvement of the heritage precincts

Heritage Listing

Projects under this type include:

  1. Identification, Listing and Grading of Heritage sites (buildings and Precincts) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region
  2. Developing guidelines for conservation of the heritage sites

Research & Others

Projects under this type include:

  1. Research on Heritage in the MMR
  2. Research on Conservation Methods
  3. Documentation of Heritage buildings and sites

Conservation & Implementation

Projects under this type include:

  1. Conservation of Heritage Buildings - This may include repair and restoration of individual building or group of buildings. Such buildings should be “public buildings” either owned by Government Agencies or Public trusts / societies but in complete public use. The Society may consider the expenditure related to façade cleaning, external improvement of private buildings provided that these buildings are grade I and are located at important locations. In case of Government agency owned buildings, the financial assistance would be restricted to 50% of the total cost of the project or 25 lakhs whichever is less and in case of private buildings or trusts / society owned buildings the financial assistance would be restricted to 30% of the total cost of the project or 25 lakhs whichever is less.

  2. Improvement of Heritage Precincts - The improvement of the precincts may require resurfacing of roads, paving of pathways, providing appropriate area lighting, street furniture, signage, cleaning, painting, and repairing of artefacts and other heritage features in the area.
  3. Restoration and conservation of other heritage objects like historical texts, old paintings, etc
  4. Undertaking other activities towards conservation of heritage sites
  5. In case of Implementation projects, the Society would support projects or components of the project that benefit the public at large. Local commitment for funding is also important for these projects

Awareness & Capacity Building

Projects under this type include:

  1. Conducting training programs on Heritage Conservation / protection / management for government and non-government groups
  2. Conducting awareness programs for Heritage Conservation
  3. Conducting symposiums, seminars, workshops for disseminating of studies/innovations and generating discussions on heritage conservation
  4. Publishing documents such as studies, manuals, journals, documentations, etc
  5. Making of films and audios for heritage conservation
  6. Organizing exhibition of works, studies, etc
